Persuasive Speech Strategies

#5 Listen to other points of view
#6 Then come up with a rebuttal (a counter-attack)
These two will be very important in any speech because no matter what you talk about there will always be someone with a different oppinion. People will also listen to you if they think you know what your talking about and if you know the reasons for both sides of the conflict then you most likely know what your talkning about. Plus if you know what the other side wants than you can down talk it and make people think its the wrong thing to do. In conclusion it is very important to know both sides of the conflict because you can persuade against something alot easier if you know a lot about it.

Pirate Story

On a dark and stormy night, the ship of the Black Death was sailing to mainland of Great Britain. The captain ran out of his quarters calling for the quartermaster. The quartermaster heard his calls and stumbled up to him.
Avast, I need to ask ye a question.” said the captain.
Aye, cap’n.” said the quartermaster.
The captain could tell he was loaded to the gunwalls.
“Do ye know how far out from the mainland we are?” said the captain.
“A good fortnight I would say.” said the quartermaster.
“We need to be getting there sooner. We running out of food and we need to pillage one of the ports to restock.” said the captain.
“I don’t know if this be a good idea cap’n. I heard they be putting the black spot on ye.” said the quartermaster.
“Bah, I'm not scared of some bilge rat putting the spot on me.” said the captain ”I’m going to spice the main brace and take a caulk.”
“Aye, cap’n.” said the quartermaster.
The captain went back to his quarters, knocked back a couple bottles of rum, and took a quick nap. He awoke to the sound of the quartermaster yelling for him.
Shiver me timbers, what the blast be going on.” said the captain.
“We be under attack, cap'n. A British navy ship fired upon us from out of no where!” said one of the pirates.
“Where be the quartermaster I need to speak to him.” said the captain.
“Aye, cap'n. Here I be.” said the quartermaster “What should we do about this.”
“Signal to the British ship that we would like to make parley with them.” said the captain.
“Are ye sure cap'n. Ye seem to be a bit squiffy.” said the quartermaster.
“Aye, I be sure. We be running a rig on them.” said the captain.
The pirate ceased fire and sailed near the British ship. The captain, the quartermaster, and a few other pirates boarded the British ship.
“We noticed you ceased fire and sailed near us. So we figured you wished to parley.” said the captain of the British Ship.
“Aye, I need to ask ye some questions.” said the captain.
“Then I shall provide you with some answers.” said the British captain.
“Why did ye open fire on us.” said the captain.
“The British King found you to be to dangerous. So he put a bounty on your head.” said the British captain.
Sink me, that be what I feared.” said the captain “Well if its me head ye want. Then ye going to have to put up a fight. Blow that man down, boys.”
Two of the pirates opened fire on the British captain.
Gasping for breath the British Captain said “You cheated.”
“It be a pirates duty to hornswaggle.” said the captain.
The captain smartly boarded back on to his ship.
“Raise the red flag, boys. Show those rats we shall give no quarter.” said the captain.
The ships fired on each other. Eventually pirate ship out fired the British Ship and sunk their ship.
“They be in Davy Jones’ Locker now, cap’n.” said the quartermaster.
“Aye, we be the most feared pirates in the seven seas.” said the captain.

Ceremonial Speech

Each of us used to imagine what we were going to be when we grew up. Some of us met those dreams and some did not. Some, like the person we are here to honor today, accidentally fell into their career and found a passion for it. Some found their career and took it to the sky. The person we are here to honor got into his successful career by accident, and he took that accident to the stars. This man we are here to honor is known by many. His name is Eric McCord!.
I remember playing soccer with Eric for many years when we were younger. He continued to play long after I did. He enjoyed the sport more than any person I had ever seen. He practiced all the time. He had determination to be the best and that determination is what led him to the top. His determination inspired everyone he met. That determination has influenced me greatly as well. He was a great friend to all and he was some one you could truly rely on.
Eric always talked about being many things when he grew up, but he had never expected to be put in the cosmetology class by accident his senior year. That is where he found his passion for his lifelong career. He and I occasionally talked after graduation. However we were unable to talk frequently. We both went to different colleges in different parts of the country. I was going to UAT, and he was going to beauty school. After college he and I stopped talking, not because of a fight or argument. We just both grew apart and did not meet again for several years.
After college Eric started his own barber shop in Indianapolis. He was very proud to see his dream finally come to reality. His barber shop was very profitable but he wanted to think bigger. So he opened his own hair salon. This way he could cut hair for men and women therefore widening his range of customers. His idea proved to be very successful and he was eventually able to open his own chain of hair salons across the west coast.
Soon he grew tired of the same routine, and he wanted to think even bigger. He thought to himself what could he do? He came across the idea one day sitting on a city bench. While thinking about what he should do he looked up. He saw an advertisement on the side of a bus. It was advertising a plastic surgeon that was giving discount face-lifts. From that point on he knew his future. He soon went back to school to become a plastic surgeon. This is when I met back up with Eric. I was at the school doing research on a new game my company was making for the Wii called Plastic Surgeon’s Nightmare. I saw him one day in one of the classes I was attending to learn about different surgeries that plastic surgeons conduct. We stayed in contact with each other from that point on.
Eric later graduated from his second time around at college and started as you all know a very successful and profitable career as a plastic surgeon. His practice has been successful for over 32 years now. He always told me you always throw out something when it becomes old and worn out. He told me this after his divorce with his sixth wife. As you all know, not all of his success was just from his career as a plastic surgeon or barber. Part of his success was because of his favorite hobby of buying small businesses and then selling them to larger businesses and restaurant chains. Speaking of restaurant chains, who could forget his own very successful restaurant chain of Chinese buffets, Eric’s Long Wok?
With all of Eric’s successful businesses and hobbies, it is no wonder that his businesses has earned him over 1.2 billion dollars over the last year. Eric though is not stopping here, even though his practice as a plastic surgeon is ending he does not wish to stop making money. So he is opening his own cruise line business. Each cruise ship will take its passengers to one of Eric’s own private islands that he has purchased. I am sure with as much success he has had with all of his previous businesses that this one will be just as big of a success.
Eric has taught to always think bigger and to always strive to be the best. I am sure this is why he has been such a huge success. We have had many great times in these last 50 years and thinking about the great times he and I had. It is truly hard to see it all come to an end, but I am sure with Eric’s determination it will not end soon.

First Speech

As we age our body physically goes through many changes, but we also go through many mental changes as well, such as our personality or choice of hobbies. I have gone through many changes as I have aged. Three things have majorly impacted my life and have changed the way I have acted, soccer, music, and video games.
When I was younger I used to enjoy playing soccer. I never liked watching it, but I enjoyed playing it. I use to practice all the time. I played nearly every position on the field, but I never played goalie because I didn’t enjoy the idea of everyone kicking soccer balls at me, and I wasn’t very good at catching. That’s why I played soccer not baseball or basketball. This is why my first visual aid is this miniature soccer ball. It represents how important soccer was to me when I was a child. It was one of the major things my dad and I had in common. My dad played soccer when he was in college and might have gone farther with it but due to injury he did not. I played soccer every year and looked forward to it, and my dad was always my coach. Some of you in here had him as a coach as well. Soccer is also very important to me because it’s where I made a lot of friends. I’m still friends with some of them today. I played soccer for about 10 years. Starting from the time I was 5 till my sophomore year. Today I do not play soccer anymore. I still enjoy the sport, but I know I am not going anywhere with it. There is only one U.S.A. Team and about three hundred million American citizens. My odds would not be good.
The things I spend my time on today are music and video games. Music has inspired me the most. I enjoy playing and listening to music. The instrument I play is the electric guitar. I have been playing for about four years now and from what I have been told I am pretty good. My favorite music genre is Heavy Metal. The bands I typically listen to are System of a Down and All That Remains. This is why my second visual aid is this All That Remains CD. It is not my visual aid because it is my favorite CD. It is my visual because it represents music, and music has influenced me greatly over the recent years. The music a person listens to can show you a lot about them. Music can give you a glimpse of a person’s personality. Music has changed my ideas and opinions of the world. Most of the music I listen to talks about real life and situations that happen today. I do not listen to music that is conceited and all about that person and how much money they make. A good example of the music I do not listen to would be rap. I do not listen to country music either for different reasons.
Video games have inspired me and have made me reconsider what I want to be when I grow up. What I have wanted to be when I was older has changed many times, but about a year ago I came to a conclusion on what I wish to be. I decided I didn’t want to work where I look forward to getting home every day or dreaded every Monday. I wanted a job that I would enjoy. I considered many things. Music was a big thing, but I wanted a job that was a sure thing. So when I grow up I want to be a video game designer. After I decided this, I looked at many colleges, and I think I have come to a decision. I would like to attend UAT, The University of Advancing Technology. This brings me to my final visual aid this, UAT coarse book. It represents the college I wish to attend. UAT is located in Tempe, Arizona and is a great college for my major of game design. They also have majors in internet security, AI programming, computer science, website design, and many other technological careers. The school’s motto is “founded by geeks for geeks”.
As I have explained, I have changed a lot over the years. What we do in our free time can greatly affect how we act. What I do in my own free time has changed my own views on many subjects. I’ve learned that if you do what you enjoy you will be happy. Soccer, music, and video games are what I enjoy and so far they haven’t let me down.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Nathanael. I am a huge nerd. I enjoy playing video games such as Halo: Reach, L4D2 (Left 4 Dead 2), WoW (World of Warcraft), and many other science fiction or RPG (Role Playing Game) games. I also enjoy watching TV (Television) lol. Hopefully none of you didn't realize what I meant there. Some shows i watch are Family Guy, The Whitest Kids 'U Know, Deadliest Warrior, King of the Hill, American Dad, and a lot of History or NatGeo (National Geographic) channel presentations. Metal is probably my favorite genre. Bands include but not limited to SOAD ( System of A Down), ATR ( All That Remains), and many other heavy groups. I'm also starting to listen to KoRn but I am not sure about them yet. I have a girlfriend her name is Megan Rich. She would probably put a lot of the same things for her favorites which is great and she is not bad looking either lol. I'm serious though. I'm also a christian. Not a baptist or any of those other titles because I don't believe in denominations. That's about it I will update as I go though so you might want to check often.
